Brush Mowing vs. Forestry Mulching: Choosing the Right Solution

Purpose: Forestry mulching is mainly used for land clearing and management, while brush mowing is mainly used for pasture management and maintenance. Brush mowing prevents weeds from growing and spreading by cutting them down and removing the old and dead plant material in order to reduce the quality and quantity of forage. It also keeps the plants in a vegetative state, which means they produce more leaves and shoots that are tasty and healthy for livestock.

Design: Forestry mulching uses a rotary drum with steel chipper tools or blades to shred vegetation, while brush mowing uses a blade or string trimmer to cut vegetation. Forestry mulching can handle larger and thicker vegetation than brush mowing, such as trees and stumps.

Application: Forestry mulching can be used in various projects, such as right-of-way clearing, wildlife habitat restoration, fire prevention, and trail creation. Brush mowing can be used in smaller projects, such as clearing fence lines, power lines, and around buildings.

Both forestry mulching and brush mowing have benefits for the land and the environment, such as erosion control, soil quality improvement, and time and resource conservation. However, they are suited for different types of vegetation and terrain.  Let the experts at Northeast Forestry Mulching help you reclaim your land with the right solution it deserves.
